What is Individual Counseling?

Individual counseling is a one-on-one, confidential process where a trained therapist helps you explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It’s a space created just for you — where you can talk freely, without fear of being judged or misunderstood. People come to counselling for many reasons, including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief, self-esteem issues, or simply feeling overwhelmed with life.

How Does It Work?

In individual counseling, you meet regularly with a licensed professional, either in person or online. The first few sessions often focus on building trust and understanding your needs. From there, you and your therapist work together to set goals, identify patterns, and develop strategies to cope or grow.

Different therapists may use different approaches — such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, or psychodynamic therapy — depending on what best suits you. Sessions usually last 45 to 60 minutes and can be short-term or long-term based on your needs.

How Does It Help?

Individual counselling can help you:

  • Gain clarity and insight into your emotions and behavior
  • Manage stress, anxiety, and depression more effectively
  • Heal from trauma or loss
  • Improve relationships and communication skills
  • Build self-awareness, confidence, and resilience
  • Set personal goals and create positive change

The benefits often go beyond the therapy room, impacting how you show up in your everyday life — at work, in relationships, and within yourself.
